The Board of the Wachusett Food Pantry has had some changes since our last report in 2006. Since January 2007, we have fed and average of 120 families per month, up from 65 families a year ago. We have continued to see an increase in numbers in all age groups, most particularly Seniors (>64 years). Senior Distribution is still held the Friday morning before the 3rd Saturday of the month, however, the time has been extended so it is now from 10-11:30 am. Councils on Aging have from 9-10 am to fill out the menus of their home-bound Seniors. Set-up of the Church is now held on Thursday from 7-8 pm. This has meant we have more possibilities for Volunteer activities.
Overall, we have seen a marked increase in people served, not only previous recipients who have returned, but also new recipients who have lived in the Wachusett area for some time. Most of the recipients do not attend every month, instead come every second or third month. Due to the overwhelming generosity of members of the Wachusett Community, we have had many successful food drives which have helped us to provide quality food to families in need in the five towns.
